Not all "health" drinks are healthy!

You already know that sugary sodas are bad for your teeth and bad for your waistline. But it’s possible your favorite “healthy” drink isn’t really healthy, either. This article looks at some of the biggest “health” drinks on the market, and it reveals some surprising info. A Naked Protein Zone Juice Smoothie, for instance, contains a whopping 53 grams of sugar!

Even if a drink says “diet,” “organic” or “healthy” on the label, you can’t just assume it’s good for you. Always read the label carefully, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Q: Is it safe to have gum treatment during pregnancy?

A: According to research recently published in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, gum disease can indeed be safely treated during pregnancy. In fact, gum treatment appears to significantly reduce the chances of premature birth associated with periodontal disease.

The University of Pennsylvania’s School of Dental Medicine recruited 322 pregnant women with gum disease and divided them into two groups: those who recieved scaling and planing along with dental education, and those who recieved dental education alone. At the conclusion of the study it was found that the women whose gum disease had been successfully treated had a significantly reduced chance of premature delivery.

Q: I’m going to have a tooth pulled soon. The tooth is toward the back, so nobody will ever see it. I’d rather not spend the money to get a bridge or an implant. What happens if I don’t replace a missing tooth?

A: Not replacing a lost tooth can have serious consequences. When a tooth is missing, the teeth around and opposing it may begin to drift out of place. You can end up with crooked teeth and unsightly gaps in your smile. Plaque can build up in the widened spaces between the teeth, which can lead to severe gum disease if left untreated. Getting one tooth replaced now will be a lot less costly than paying to repair the damage caused by that missing tooth later!

Q: Is it really possible to hear radio signals through your fillings?

A: It’s a popular sitcom plot, and there have been many anecdotes about it happening in real life. (Perhaps most famously, I Love Lucy star Lucille Ball claimed it happened to her.) But as far as anybody has been able to prove, it doesn’t really happen.

The Discovery Channel show Mythbusters put it to the test in 2003, and after they conducted their tests they declared the myth busted. The popular newspaper column The Straight Dope achieved the same result back in 1992. So don’t worry, you can get a filling without ending up being stuck listening to the local jazz station all day long!
