Veneers: Will they affect what foods I can eat?
Q: I’m interested in getting veneers, but I’ve heard veneers are fragile. Will having them affect what food I can eat?
A: Veneers offer many benefits. They can cover teeth that are misshapen or discolored, fix gaps between your teeth, and more. You won’t have to make huge changes to your diet, but veneers won’t be as strong as your natural teeth so you will have to make some adjustments to how you eat.
You shouldn’t use your veneers to chew crunchy foods like apples or nuts, or sticky foods like taffies. If you are eating a crunchy food like an apple, slice it up into smaller chunks first and chew them with your back teeth.
Talk to your dentist to find out if you are a good candidate for veneers and discuss any special considerations for your teeth.
